Welcome to Teddington Police Station Reopening

February 13, 2003 12:00 AM

MP Vincent Cable welcomed the formal re-opening of the police station at Teddington after attending the event with the Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Sir John Stevens, the borough commander, Chief Superintendent Gargini, the Mayor of Richmond and 30 volunteers who will man the station.

Vincent Cable said: "With the local community I strongly opposed the closure over five years ago and I am delighted that the Commissioner has heeded public reaction and has taken steps to re-open the station."

"Residents in Teddington and Hampton could not understand why, with a functioning local police station, they had to travel to the congested public desk in Twickenham."

"Thanks to local volunteers there are dedicated people available and the community should be indebted to them."

"This enables the station to be manned while ensuring that scarce police officers are deployed on the streets where they are needed".
