Hampton Community Police Meeting

March 11, 2003 9:33 AM

Mounted police on patrol at Canary Wharf.Because of public anxiety about crime in Hampton the borough's Police Community Consultative Group (PCCG) is conveying a public meeting at the White House Community Centre next Monday @ 7pm.

Senior police officers will deal with questions from the public.

Vincent Cable, MP, said: "there is a palpable sense of insecurity in the Hampton area. Although the tragic murder of Marsha McDonnell and the hammer attacks are almost certainly the work of one evil individual, it has added to a general fear of crime which has grown because of street "

"disorder and vandalism by teenage gangs".

"I have been pressing the police for some time for a return to community and beat policing and was very pleased that the Borough Commander committed his force to ward based officers."

"There are now three officers dedicated to Hampton. "

"This isn't enough and they are not often seen on the streets but it is a big advance. The issue now, which the meeting will address, is how further to calm the community's fears".
