Residents Protest over Sorting Room' Licence Bid

January 15, 2004 1:28 PM

Central Twickenham residents objected vehemently to the proposal from the Sorting Room to extend its late night opening at the weekend.

MP Vincent Cable has supported residents: "This extension would seriously aggravate the already worrying problems of late night drunkenness and antisocial behaviour in Twickenham."

"The Sorting Room is a massive pub taking 400 to 500 customers. Many are very young drinkers who come from outside the area and engage in 'binge drinking' fuelled by cut-price drink offers. The police do not have the capacity to deal with the problem and the new Community Support Officers cannot patrol when they are most needed: at closing time. The licensing committee should say 'no'".
