Three of the five post offices listed for closure will shut their doors in August (Kingston Road on 14 August; Hampton Road on 16 August; Priory Road Hampton on 16 September).

After strenuous appeals from the consumer watch dog Postwatch and MP Vincent Cable, the Post office is reconsidering its decision on Tangley Park, Hampton, and Nelson Road, Whitton.

Vincent Cable said: "I very much regret the closures. The Post Office have tried to sugar the pill in Hampton by introducing longer hours and better facilities at the Station Road branch. But there is little doubt that the elderly and people with disabilities will be seriously inconvenienced at all three branches".

"I continue to hope that the community will salvage something as a result of the protests and appeals on the two remaining branches. But the Post Office is giving way on only a few appeals on the hundreds of closures across London".
