There are new fears over the provision of post office services in the Hampton area with reports that - contrary to earlier assurances - Tesco want to close the Bear Road office. Vincent Cable, MP, has written a strong letter to the chief executive of Post Office Counters accusing him of bad faith.
"The position in Hampton, especially Nurserylands, is already very unsatisfactory with two of the three post offices closed despite strong protests from residents, me and the consumer 'watch dog' Post Watch. We were however told that, come what may, Bear Road would be retained. Now, it appears that there are serious doubts about it. Whether this is bad faith or incompetence isn't totally clear but there needs to be urgent action by the Post Office to reassure residents".
