Vince Cable

A group of cyclists and a cycle rickshaw passed through Whitton on their way to Edinburgh for the G8 Summit staying at the Vicarage and with local parishioners. Their journey is part of the Make Poverty History campaign and some of the campaigners have cycled to Genoa and Cologne to contribute to public awareness of previous summits and to focus attention on world poverty issues.

The campaigners were met by Whitton vicar Rev Jill Mowbray and Vincent Cable MP. Vincent Cable said: "The dedication and idealism of this bank of volunteers is quite inspiring. They have to push the cycle rickshaw up most of the hills and are travelling long distances in all weathers. I had a valuable discussion with them on the Summit and the debt relief package; although what has been agreed is modest, it is a positive and encouraging step."
