Competition for Best Curry

July 26, 2005 12:31 PM

Local 'curry houses' have been invited to compete for the 'Tiffin' cup, awarded to the best curry in Britain.

Vincent Cable has written to 20 restaurant in the Twickenham constituency inviting them to put in a bid, through their customers' recommendations. Other MPs, across Britain, are doing the same.

Vincent Cable said that "there are probably 40 to 50 Indian (or south Asian) restaurants in the borough. The old style 'Taj Mahal' curry houses, which were usually owned by Bangladeshians from one district have broadened out. We how have a wide variety of regional foods - from Kerala to Bengal - and the full range of quality".

"In Twickenham, as in the rest of Britain, Indian food has become part of the national diet. It is good to see that quality is now being recognised and I want to encourage our local restraunters to compete for a mark of performance".
