Vince Cable

A local charity which specialises in helping young families who need practical support - Home-Start - celebrated its 10th Anniversary with a party at St Margaret's Church, last Saturday, with Vincent Cable MP in attendance.

The project provides volunteers who can give advice, friendship and practical help to young children and is linked to the national Home-Start scheme.

Vincent Cable said that the volunteers "provide invaluable support to families. But unfortunately their contribution is not fully recognised by the authorities - the Government, the NHS and the Council's voluntary organisations grant giving body have all slammed the door on Home-Start, financially, forcing it to seek charitable funding."
