The BNP has been circulating anti-Muslim leaflets in the Whitton area attacking an "Islamic Fifth Column". Residents have expressed to Vincent Cable MP about the potential impact on racial harmony in the area. Vincent Cable said: "There has been a merciful lack of activity from the BNP and other extremist organisations in recent years. But this latest leaflet suggests that they see some advantage in cashing in on the current anxiety about terrorism. The proximity to Hounslow Mosque makes it's a particularly inviting area to cultivate. It is striking that these days the BNP are much cleverer than when they employed crude racism. I am confident that residents will not fall for them and I definitely don't want to see fascist organisations establishing a presence in this area."
