Vincent Cable, MP, is to visit a village in Sri Lanka rebuilt with funds from a Hampton charity on the Boxing Day anniversary of the disaster. The first phase of the 'Hampton Village' project has been completed and the first 10 homes are to be occupied following a religious ceremony and a formal handover by Vincent Cable, MP.
Vincent Cable said: "the local response to the disaster was terrific and local schools in particular have backed the fundraising. It is good to know that, despite all the big logistical problems on the ground, the Hampton team, led by Dr Wikrama Sekera, have managed to get the first batch of house built for the fishermen who lost their homes - and in most cases family members - in the tsunami.
It is an honour to be invited to the opening as the main guest. I believe the President and Prime Minister are also coming to the village."
