Vincent Cable MP has written to Richmond Housing Partnership making strong representations to them about the use of clamping companies who are not legally registered. Several residents have had bad experiences with clampers, including visitors to Alexander Close in Strawberry Hill.
Vincent Cable has established that one of RHP's contractors, Capital Clampers, may have been operating illegally because it does not appear to have been registered with the Security Industry Association. Unlicensed clamping contractors face a fine or imprisonment. Vincent Cable has challenged RHP to confirm whether or not it was using an unregistered clamping company and, if it was, to refund any charges imposed since May 2005 when the legislation came into effect.
Vincent Cable said: "Many residents have had bad experiences with clamping companies but they are now protected by the law. It is incumbent on bodies like the RHP and the Council to establish whether or not they are using reputable companies or cowboys."
