Several local voluntary organisations have won awards from the Big Lottery Fund:
• Project Merville: Funding for 40 war veterans to attend commemorative events
• The Richmond Users Independent Living Scheme: Funding to help local disabled people identify carers to meet their needs
• Richmond Carers Centre: To organise a conference in Carers Week
• Cambridge Park Bowling & Sports Club: Funding for a disabled ramp
Vincent Cable MP said: "Each of these grants will help valuable local groups, particularly those helping people cope with problems of disability. There is a general sense of frustration that lottery money is not being spent or is being diverted into big prestige projects like sports stadiums. The small grants to local good causes represent what lottery funding should be about."
