Local MP supports planning aid initiative

May 22, 2006 1:50 PM

Together with Planning Aid for London, local MP, Dr Vincent Cable, is piloting an imaginative new initiative to make town planning more accessible to his constituents.

From a neighbour's proposed extension, to what on earth is happening to the Borough Plan - or even the London Plan - you can get independent planning advice by coming along to Dr Cable's Surgery at 2A LION ROAD TWICKENHAM on :-

• JUNE 30TH 5 pm - 7 pm for individuals with small scale issues

• JULY 3rd 10 am - 12 am for individuals and Groups with larger scale concerns

Two professional town planners from the Planning Aid for London service will be on hand to help you.

Vincent Cable said: I have large numbers of letters and constituency surgery visits on planning matters, ranging from worries about big developments to issues with next door neighbours over extensions. I regard this interest as healthy: local people care about the local environment, green space and architecture."

"The local environment is however often under threat from, sometimes greedy, developers who, if they had their way, would turn the borough into a concrete jungle and build on every back garden and piece of open space. The planning system is tilted in their favour since developers can appeal against adverse decisions but residents have no 'third party' appeal rights. There are ways of fighting back, however, and I am working with qualified planners to ensure that residents are helped where possible."
