Jolly Boatman

August 1, 2006 11:35 AM

Following the proposals by Gladedale and Network Rail for the Jolly Boatman and Hampton Court Station, the Historic Royal Palaces, responsible for Hampton Court, have criticised the proposals since they fail to protect the views to, and from, the Palace.

Vincent Cable MP said that he "had a good meeting with the developers who are making a big effort to persuade councils, MPs and amenity groups on both sides of the river that there is no alternative to a development. However, the Royal Palaces are quite clear in their judgement that the proposals are overbearing and they will continue to oppose any development on the Jolly Boatman site. They have offered to clear up the site themselves but the developers will have none of it. I support the stand the Palaces have taken and the developers will have to concede this point, otherwise there will be a continued impasse, whatever the other merits of their proposed development."
