Whitton Residents Up in Arms over Road Works

Residents of Whitton's Nelson Road have appealed to local councillors and Vincent Cable MP for support after road works under a Transport for London project create prolonged disruption without the prospect of any improvement in safety conditions. This section of road has been the source of numerous accidents; a primary school and popular Catholic Church; and there have been numerous unsuccessful attempts to introduce traffic calming.
Vincent Cable MP was instrumental several years ago in persuading the Council to reverse a disastrous series of cushions which did nothing to slow traffic but caused a big noise for 24 hours a day when hit by lorries and buses. He has asked for a fresh look at the new plans: "A small fortune has been spent on a succession of traffic calming experiments which didn't calm traffic. I sincerely hope this one is more successful. However, residents are looking for a 20mph zone in the area close to Nelson School; traffic cameras; and a roundabout at a dangerous junction."
