Following representations from MP Vincent Cable, the police have agreed to install mobile cameras at Kingston Bridge and Hampton Station to deter and, if necessary, identify vandals who have been causing criminal damage.
Vincent Cable said that: "the new, temporary, cameras are much easier and less costly to install than the traditional CCTV system. There has been a recent upsurge of vandalism and graffiti around Hampton Station often involving youngsters taking dangerous risks around the live rails. Hopefully the cameras will deter them. Kingston Bridge is the main thoroughfare for large numbers of young people going to and from the town centre for evening entertainment and it has become a focus of graffiti. Local residents have been pressing for better security and this will help".
