New Protests over Riverside Tower Block

September 24, 2007 4:38 PM

Hampton Wick residents are seriously concerned over new proposals for a development on the site of the former Kingston Power Station.

The new proposals, for which Kingston Council's public consultation closes this week, involve a 150 bedroom hotel and 370 flats and part of the development will be 16 storeys high.

Vincent Cable MP said: "This development is being determined by Kingston Council rather than our own. But residents on the Hampton Wick side are worried that the new development will be dominated by a big multi-storey tower block. There are several big developments in Kingston on that stretch of river but if the river frontage becomes a mini version of Canary Wharf its character will be completely lost. I believe Richmond Council has registered its concerns on behalf of local residents and rightly so."
