MP Accuses London Transport of 'Arrogance' over Bus Routes

October 15, 2007 12:23 PM

Following the publication of new and revised bus services by Transport for London, Vincent Cable MP accused it of being 'arrogant and out of touch".

Transport for London has disregarded demands from residents in Teddington for a more regular service than the hourly 481 from Teddington to Kingston.

On the other hand, it is introducing an all-night 111 service through the narrow residential streets of Hampton.

Vincent Cable said: "There is strong feeling in both areas. Teddington has been badly let down. I have a substantial petition from residents who feel that the hourly service is hopeless. And the problem will get worse with the big new housing development on Sandy Lane.

"Yet there is now a new proposal to extend the 111 to an all-night service, starting in November. This bus currently travels at high speed and very noisily through narrow residential roads - Station Road, Percy Road, Acacia Road and Nightingale Road - and is already a source of some ill feeling. To change this route to 24 hour will be very controversial. The small number of residents who do need a bus in the middle of the night currently have access to another service, 285, not too far away."
