Praise for England's Rugby Effort

October 22, 2007 3:25 PM

Vincent Cable MP, currently Leader of the Liberal Democrats, was amongst public figures who sent best wishes to the England rugby team after they lost at the final hurdle in the World Cup.

He said: "The national rugby team made the country very proud after they exceeded all expectations and came close in the finals after putting up a fierce battle.

"Since I represent Twickenham, the Mecca of the game, I am particularly delighted that the whole of England rallied behind the team.

"It is worth reflecting that this is a game which gives pleasure to millions and makes a major contribution to community sport but makes no demands on the taxpayer or the National Lottery."
