Vincent Cable and Susan Kramer, the borough's two Lib Dem MPs, will both be heavily involved in the campaign to stop the government steam-rollering through the next major, planned, expansion of Heathrow.
The Government is embarking on a three month public consultation to gauge reaction to plans to build a new runway, a new terminal and to end runway alternation which would also considerably increase the number of flights.
Vincent Cable said: "It is clear from Gordon Brown's pronouncements this weekend that he is determined to push this airport expansion through whatever the view of people in south west London and he is simultaneously trying to weaken the system of planning control to reduce the say which local people have over big developments which affect their lives. The commitment to rapid expansion of aviation through Heathrow enlargement, which both he and David Cameron support, flies in the face of all the Government's promises to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the interest of tackling climate change".
