Vincent Cable, MP, spent over nine months recently helping a local resident pursue the taxation of an untaxed vehicle in Teddington in the face of continued inefficiency by DVLA. It is still being driven, untaxed. On one occasion the vehicle was turned away and impounded but released with DVLA demanding a licence fee.
Vincent Cable said: "it is utterly frustrating for law abiding motorists when they pay their tax on time and in full to see untaxed vehicles being driven around or parked by the roadside. This particular vehicle was reported by a Teddington resident almost a year ago and I have been urging DVLA to take enforcement action. We get lots of excuses but no action. A few days ago, the Public Accounts Committee criticised the DVLA and the Department for Transport for tolerating rising levels of tax evasion. They don't need to look further than our local streets to see why".
