Hampton Wick Station Access Row

March 5, 2008 2:02 PM

Disabled people in Hampton Wick, and families with young children, are concerned that they are being overlooked in a programme of upgrading access to Hampton Wick station.

The Council is carrying out a programme of consultation on access improvements but is not in a position to deliver improvements on the station itself because it is the responsibility of SW Trains. SW Trains say that it is difficult to install a lift or a ramp and there is a risk that the work will proceed without any improvements.

Vincent Cable MP said: "Hampton Wick is a tricky station for parents with young children and the disabled because of a flight of stairs. I can understand that there are cost implications. But if improvements are being made in any event and builders are on the site, why not take a once-in-a-generation opportunity to upgrade the station as, indeed, the law requires."
