Lidl Plans Whitton Store

January 29, 2009 4:38 PM

Lidl, the retailer, has written to Vincent Cable MP to describe the Group's hope of establishing a substantial retail outlet on the site of the disused Co-op on Whitton High Street. The site has been disused for years and a major source of blight.

Vincent Cable said: "I have no particular brief for this company but it is surely good news that a time when retailers are going to the wall, like Woolworths, and high streets are under pressure everywhere, here is a leading chain with a positive outlook and a willingness to invest. Obviously they need to tie up the legal detail and meet planning standards but I am sure the local community will welcome some action at very long last."
