Opposition from Hampton residents, supported by MP Vincent Cable and local councillors, has been successful in persuading the road freight company First Call Logistics to withdraw its application to the traffic commissioner for a license to use the Oldfield Road industrial estate.
Residents were concerned that a densely populated area with already congested narrow roads could simply not accommodate a steady flow of lorries operating out of a base on Oldfield Road.
Vincent Cable said: "this application was totally misplaced and would have caused serious problems to residents in Oldfield Road and Percy Road. It is good to see that the Leeds based traffic commissioner was so responsible and this restores some faith that government quangos will listen to public concerns."
