Vincent Cable MP has written urgently to Alan Johnson, the Health Secretary, and the local Primary Care Trust to set out clearly the conditions under which flu jabs can be made available on a preventative basis. This follows emergency requests from a local air stewardess travelling to and from Mexico and from a local businessman travelling to an infected zone on California.
Vincent Cable said: "Constituents tell me that they are being given the run around when they approach GPs, pharmacists and PCTs. There is a general policy of refusing injections unless people are actually ill. But there may be a sensible reason to give exemptions to those, like air cabin staff, who are exceptionally exposed to the risk of infection."
