The Borough Commander, Chief Supt Turner, and his equivalent in Surrey Police have written to Vincent Cable MP to say that DNA samples from local young people who have been interviewed by the Police but never charged or convicted are now being deleted.
Vincent Cable has been seeking to have samples destroyed for a long time but a recent European Court ruling requires the Police to destroy samples held against peoples' will, when they involved people who are innocent of any offence.
Vincent Cable said: "The two families were very concerned that they boys were being treated as criminals despite merely being witnesses or by-standers in police incidents. I have tried for a long time to get the Police to delete the samples and they have now agreed. Justice has been done."
