Local MP in Hospital Dash

June 8, 2009 3:28 PM

Local MP Vincent Cable was rushed to hospital in Westminster last week after a sudden attack of appendicitis and he underwent surgery at St Thomas' hospital from which he is now recovering at home.

Speaking from his home in Twickenham he said; "it was quite dramatic at the time but a speedy, successful operation prevented a dangerous situation developing".

"It was initially thought to be food poisoning and since I had been at a dinner party with the former head of M15 I could see that this would make a good story. But checks revealed that I had chronic appendicitis and surgeons removed the offending object. I had the full NHS experience including several hours in an A&E ward but the doctors and nurses were superb. I was reminded of the high quality of people serving in the NHS and also of medical advances; my appendix was removed through key hole surgery and I was released within 36 hours, something which could never have happened until very recently".
