Local loos reopened

August 10, 2009 3:15 PM

Today (Monday) Vincent Cable, MP, councillors and council officials attended the opening of a new, refurbished, public loo in Whitton, near the library.

There has been a decline in the number of loos in the borough in recent years though the borough has made a lot of progress with developing public access to toilets in shops, cafes and pubs and has been commended for its progress in this area.

Yet there continues to be frustrations, especially amongst elderly and less mobile residents, about the lack of public facilities.

Vincent Cable said:

'there is a very odd anomaly in legislation that loos are one of the few local facilities for which the is no statutory responsibility. Despite that, facilities seem to be improving and the Whitton opening is a welcome, positive development.'
