This week, clients of Centre 32, a drop in centre for the mentally ill, and their carers presented a petition to Vince Cable MP protesting over the imminent closure and the way the closure is being handled.
Vince Cable said:
"I met the management of Richmond MIND before Christmas and attended meetings with Trustees to express concerns that were coming through from the clients. Dozens of vulnerable people felt that they were being cast adrift; that there was unnecessary haste over the closure; and that there was worrying uncertainty about alternative provisions.
Since then anxieties seem to have grown rather than receded and there is some anger over the way Richmond MIND is managing the issue. I am seeking an urgent meeting with MIND to see if we can help the clients. It is not right that people struggling with mental illness should also feel that they losing their social contact".
