Vince Cable MP has taken up the cause of Whitton residents, who lack a direct bus route to Whitton Shopping Centre and train station. Those who live at the western edge of the borough in Heathfield face a time consuming and expensive journeys on two buses or by cab to get to the centre of Whitton or the station. Many hundreds of residents, led by Miss Ann Goff of Waverley Avenue, have petitioned Transport for London for the 110 bus to be diverted into Whitton. Vince Cable is writing to the Mayor and is setting up a meeting with TFL to progress the initiative.
Vince Cable said:
"There is a strong head of stream behind this petition. There are two to three thousand people who are effectively cut off because of poor public transport. It is inconvenient and expensive for them to travel into Whitton, and effectively means Whitton is cut off from a large part of its hinterland.
So far TFL has been reluctant to move because a Whitton loop adds six minutes to journeys. But there is a compelling case and TfL have to listen".
