An expansion of Heathrow Airport is "not going to happen", Vince Cable MP for Twickenham said yesterday.
Many residents of Twickenham and the surrounding area have already raised fears over the increased noise and pollution that a new runway or increased night flights would bring to the area.
Speaking on Andrew Marr's show on BBC One Dr Cable said "This is not a parochial little problem for south-west London. There are potentially two million people affected by this.
"There's an absolute political commitment not to expand Heathrow."
There is a clear coalition agreement not to expand Heathrow with the recently launched commission chaired by ex-Financial Services boss Sir Howard Davies looking at the alternatives.
London Liberal Democrats will continue their campaign against any Heathrow expansion.
