Lib Dem MP's attack Kingston Hospital Board

Vincent Cable, MP, joined neighbouring MPs Jenny Tonge and Ed Davey in attacking the board of Kingston hospital for forcing the departure of the Chief Executive, John Langan, a move which has also been condemned by all the consultants at the hospital.

It is reported that Mr Langan was forced out because he was endeavouring to give priority to health improvements while the Board were more concerned about the financial deficit of the hospital.

Vincent Cable said: "In many respects, Kingston hospital has a high reputation. The waits in casualty are far too long but the overall standard is good. When I visit the hospital it is clear also that morale is high."

"What seems to be happening is that the Board, which is a quango appointed by the government has been interfering and trying to impose its own, financial, priorities."

"The three MPs have asked Alan Milburn, Health Secretary, to investigate the matter immediately so that the hospital is not yet left in a state of crisis".
