MP Promotes Farmers' Markets

3.58.35pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 17th Jul 2007

At the end of last week, Vincent Cable MP paid a visit to both the regular Twickenham Saturday open air farmers' market and to the new commercial farmers' market store in Hampton Hill.

He said: "Both these markets in their different ways reflect a big and growing demand amongst local people for genuinely fresh, wholesome produce and for giving farmers a decent return on quality goods.

"At the Twickenham market, there were regulars who have come for Lincolnshire and find it worthwhile because of the number of their loyal customers.

"I confess to having a personal interest. My wife is a farmer, who produces small quantities of quality beef, and farmers' markets have created a big new opportunity for people like her."
