Thames Water Promise Action and Compensation over Sewer Flooding12.25.00pm GMT Mon 29th Oct 2007 Following a meeting with Vincent Cable, MP, Thames Water has set out a programme of action following the 20thJuly storm which it describes as a '1 in 150 year storm', with more sewer flooding incidents in three days than are normally recorded in a year. Vincent Cable had approached Thames Water on behalf of large numbers of local residents who were affected by sewer flooding. Thames Water has put forward plans to pay compensation of up to £1000 for damage caused by waste water. £320 million is now being invested to reduce future sewer flooding risk where the risks are greatest. Vincent Cable said: "many local residents had a terrible experience with the July sewer flooding and it worries me that Thames Water do not appear to have records of many local incidents. Some of them tell me that sewage flooding is a regular occurrence. I want Thames Water and the council to work together to make absolutely sure that this doesn't happen again".
